Crystal Palace travelled to the Etihad Stadium in Manchester to play a Manchester City team full of confidence after spanking Watford last week.

The Expat Eagle’s Verdict
This week I’ve been on a break in Stockholm and just returned from a cruise to Finland when the game began. As a result, I can’t write a match opinion about the game itself.
What I can comment on is I was expecting a mauling and predicted a 5-0 defeat just like we got last season. The team didn’t disappoint.
It seems Hodgson picked the team that most fans wanted to see picked, with the exception of the injured Zaha. Ward and Puncheon were dropped Luka was restored so I don’t see what more could have been done with team selection.
Benteke went off with an injury, I hope for our sake it is only a minor injury. Let’s face it, we’re going to get a hiding next week too so he may as well sit it out.
As I mentioned, I didn’t see the game so I can’t comment on the fight or passion the team played with but I really don’t see why some fans are jumping out of their prams. This game and the next two are ‘dead rubbers’ so let’s start to judge the team and the manager after Chelsea has been and gone.
Palace performed as expected and anything less than a defeat by 3 goals would have felt like a moral victory. We didn’t get that so I don’t think the situation is better or worse than last week.
Verdict: A par performance by Palace with a team most fans would have picked.
