Bakary Sako verses Manchester United

Crystal Palace made their second trip to Manchester in a week to face Manchester United. Would we make more of a game of it this week?

The Expat Eagle’s Verdict

One of my mottos is ‘I can forgive a lack of talent but I can’t forgive a lack of effort!’ Unfortunately, I didn’t see one player yesterday who is beyond forgiveness for the display we put out yesterday.

If I am going to be fair to the team I will say that we were matching United until they scored. For a whole one minute and thirty seconds we were in the game and as soon as Rashford sent Ward on a fool’s errand we were never going to come back into it.

Players were simply not tracking back, not running with their man, not showing any desire or effort. Players like Fellaini ran 35 yards while the two players with him, Puncheon and Schlupp, just stood still and watch him score.

I don’t blame Roy for the performances but he isn’t the man for the job. He will not get us out of the mess we’re in because I don’t think the players expect him to be around for long.

Let me put it this way. do you remember when you were a kid? Who were you most afraid of. Your dad or your granddad? I’d liken Big Sam to your dad and Roy to your granddad. No offence to either but I wouldn’t want to piss off Big Sam but I would be bothered if Roy was annoyed at me because he’d never be able to catch me.

I know, Big Sam took 6 games before we got our first league win, even though he got a draw in his first game. The difference is during the 5 winless games the players not only scored goals but they looked like they wanted to win, tried to win and put in the effort to turn things around.

At Old Trafford we looked like a team going through the motions.

I don’t like to see players booked but we didn’t receive a single booking. Does that not show how the team had a complete lack of desire? Under Big Sam we put it about. Roughed up the opposition.

Against Southampton we had 6 bookings, too many, yesterday we had none. We’ve gone from trying too hard to not trying at all.

We are doomed. We’re going down faster than a £5 a time hooker at the docks just after a navy ship as docked from a 6-month tour of service.

Nothing is going to stop this from happening. I’m not pessimistic, I’ve just accepted the inevitable. It’s the hope that hurts and accepting our face has turned this from torture into a comedy tragedy.

They will be little signs of hope only to be cruelly extinguished. It’s the Palace way and I’ve seen it time and time again.

In my opinion, the best thing we can do is start buying youth players so when we get relegated we can build a young team to come back up. We should accept what we are, a selling club. Once a player wants too much money, sell him on for a profit.

With the current owners that we have, we’ll never amount to anything more than a struggling Premier League team who tries to sustain their status on the cheap.

We’re trying to play in the Premier League on Championship mentality. Or to put it another way, we’re trying to live a champagne lifestyle on lemonade money.

Verdict: Does anyone have the number to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland?
