No repeat of last years stunning 3-0 victory for the Eagles.

Arsenal visited Selhurst Park with last season’s 3-0 defeat fresh in the memory. Would they be able to get revenge and end Palace’s unbeaten run?

The Expat Eagle’s Verdict

So our unbeaten run of 8 games came to an end. I think most of us had come to accept that we might not get anything from home games against Arsenal and Machester City but we hoped for a battle.

Unfortunately the first half against Arsenal we were second best at everything. If I were the manager I’d think we had the better chance of securing a victory against Arsenal than Manchester City but it looked like the team were taking it easy to save themselves for the tougher of the two games.

In the second half we were much improved and it seemed that we were prepared to put up a fight. Zaha operated more towards the left wing and was much more effective. I think we have to accept, however long he stays with the club, that Zaha is a winger and not a central attacker.

Cabaye and Loftus-Cheek were both replaced and in truth were both poor. Cabaye had been looking exhausted in games recently and Loftus-Cheek has always seemed to struggle against the top 6 sides in the division. Sure, he looks like a quality player but quality players look quality against quality teams. But he’s young and will improve and be more consistent.

As the clock was running down I didn’t think 1-3 was an unfair scoreline but it was nice that Tomkins scored at the end to continue our run of scoring 2 goals in home games. The run is now 7 games in a row. I don’t expect this to continue against Manchester City.

I’ve said in a few places that if Manchester City were still unbeaten going into the game versus us that I would put £5 on us to beat them because, well, that would be so Palace! I’m going to place the bet later today.

If you would like to see the goals, they can be found here.

Verdict: Roll on the transfer window. I assume we have the players already lined up Liverpool and Everton already have.
